Fair "Kathreine"

The fair "Kathreine" is, as it were, the little brother of the famous Stegen market. It takes place a bit later and it is quite smaller, but if you like markets and traditions and if you love to haggle over wares, you should not miss it. 

The fair is very rich in tradition and therefore some years ago a club, which was founded just for this purpose, awoke it. Like in grandma’s times, the fair "Kathreine" takes place on an old farmers’ holiday – St Catherine’s Day – in Mühlen near Sand in Taufers and starts with a mass at 9 am. 

After this the organizers will read aloud the old market regulations on the square in the town centre, so that every dealer, buyer and guest knows how to behave. Afterwards you can stroll, rummage, buy and haggle to your heart’s content. 

The colourful market stands will be full of different wares and there will be a cattle market, sheep breeders and traditional farmers’ craftworks. Also food and drinks don’t leave out – on the contrary there are offered many solid meals such as fritters, potato and barley soup, dumplings and of course roast sweet chestnuts and new wine. 

To conclude the fair "Kathreine" traditionally everybody comes together at "Golla", the central inn and at other taverns of the village in Tauferer Ahrntal, where the special day ends with music, dance and songs.
