Het beslaat niet alleen een groot gebied in het westen van Zuid-Tirol, maar strekt zich ook uit tot in Trentino en Lombardije. Het grenst in het noordwesten aan het Zwitserse Nationale Park en in het zuiden aan het Parco dell'Adamello. Het Nationale Park Stelvio is een van de grootste beschermde gebieden in Europa en heeft een unieke flora en fauna.
Het strekt zich uit over een totale oppervlakte van 530 km² en van 700 meter in de vallei tot een hoge alpine hoogte van 3.900 meter. Natuurliefhebbers kunnen in het Nationaal Park Stelvio alle typische alpiene habitats ervaren. Vooral de rots- en gletsjergebieden zijn indrukwekkend, waar bloemen zoals gletsjer boterbloemen en alpenklokjes groeien en dieren zoals steenbokken en steenarenden zich thuis voelen.
In totaal 5 bezoekerscentra brengen bezoekers dichter bij belangrijke onderwerpen van het Stelvio National Park: hier leren kinderen en volwassenen interessante feiten over water en bossen, vogels en vissen, bergboeren en het leven in het hooggebergte. Elk bezoekerscentrum is gewijd aan een specifiek thema en biedt informatie over het beschermde gebied en de wandelpaden. Geweldige excursiebestemmingen, vooral voor gezinnen!
