Vakantie in Ridanna
Het ongerepte Ridnaundal aan de voet van de Schneeberg aan de noordgrens van Zuid-Tirol behoort tot de gemeente Ratschings en staat voor natuurlijk, actief en ontspannen vakantiegenot met een vleugje geschiedenis.
De naam Ridanna verwijst naar een relatief breed dal omgeven door de Stubaier Alpen. Het splitst zich af van het Eisacktal bij Vipiteno en strekt zich dan ongeveer 18 kilometer uit naar het noordwesten op ongeveer 1.300 meter boven zeeniveau. Dezelfde naam heeft ook een klein dorp dat hier ligt en dat tegenwoordig voornamelijk van het toerisme leeft.

Nog niet zo lang geleden lag de belangrijkste bron van inkomsten van de vallei echter in een heel ander gebied. Meer dan 800 jaar lang werd er zilver, lood en zink gewonnen aan de kop van het dal, waar de machtige Schneeberg verdere vooruitgang verhindert. De mijn op de Schneeberg, die pas in 1985 definitief zijn deuren sloot, werd beschouwd als een van de hoogste mijnbouwlocaties van Europa.
Als je je sport-, ontspannings- en natuurvakantie in Ridanna wilt combineren met een dosis geschiedenis en cultuur, raden we je een bezoek aan het mijnbouwmuseum Ridanna aan. Dit bevindt zich in de wijk Maiern en biedt spannende rondleidingen boven en onder de grond: Naast de showtunnels zijn vooral de ertsverwerkingsinstallatie en het bovengrondse transportsysteem uit de tijd van de industriële revolutie de moeite waard. Ook het romantische mijnwerkerskerkje St. Magdalena, waarin een waardevol gevleugeld altaar te zien is, gaat terug op de mijnwerkers.
Wat het dagelijks leven en de natuur betreft, is het Ridnauntal de laatste jaren weinig veranderd. Samen met de hoofdplaats Ratschings aan de ingang van het dal en het iets zuidelijker gelegen Val di Giovo, dat een verbinding vormt tussen het Eisacktal en het Passeiertal, is Ridanna een populair vakantiegebied.

Het landschap is hier op veel plaatsen ongerept, er is geen drukte of lawaai en je hoeft je weinig zorgen te maken over te veel bezoekers. Over het algemeen trekt Ridanna natuurliefhebbers en actieve vakantiegangers aan die de rust van de vallei waarderen.
Rust is echter geen synoniem voor verveling, want het lokale activiteitenprogramma is behoorlijk indrukwekkend. Afhankelijk van de tijd van het jaar ligt de nadruk op wandelen of langlaufen. Terwijl je in de zomer de omliggende bergen kunt bedwingen op talloze loipes, beschikt Ridanna in de winter over een modern biatloncentrum, waar al verschillende nationale en internationale wedstrijden zijn gehouden.
