"Thuis bij vrienden" – in S. Andrea is dat geen loze slogan, maar een concreet motto dat op veel plaatsen tot uiting komt. Niet voor niets geldt het dorpje boven Brixen als een kleine maar fijne en uiterst sympathieke vakantiebestemming die doet wat het belooft.

De geschiedenis ervan gaat waarschijnlijk terug tot de oudheid; de eerste schriftelijke vermeldingen dateren uit de 12e eeuw.
Vroeger was S. Andrea een typische verspreide nederzetting, bestaande uit een klein dorpscentrum met een parochiekerk en verschillende, ver uit elkaar liggende boerderijen. In de loop der tijd kwamen er in sommige gehuchten eigen, kleinere kerken en kapellen bij, die dankzij hun kunstzinnige fresco’s deels nog steeds tot de bezienswaardigheden van het dorp behoren. Ook het bewoonde gebied is steeds dichter bebouwd geraakt, zodat S. Andrea zich nu kan presenteren als een kleine, maar aantrekkelijke woon- en vakantiebestemming.

Vanwege zijn prachtige panoramische ligging hoog boven de bisschopsstad Brixen staat S. Andrea enerzijds bekend om het fantastische uitzicht op het Eisacktal en de omliggende bergen. Anderzijds is het gebied buitengewoon zonnig, zodat men meestal in het zonlicht kan genieten van het gevarieerde sport- en vrijetijdsaanbod in de vrije natuur.
Tot slot geldt: of je nu in een ligstoel zit te lezen, aan het wandelen bent, aan mountainbiken of downhill-biken doet, tennist of op de motor over de pasweg naar het Würzjoch rijdt – bij stralend zonlicht en met een prachtig uitzicht in de verte is het allemaal dubbel zo leuk.
In het koude seizoen gaat men in S. Andrea zeker niet in winterslaap, maar verwelkomt men de vele skiërs en snowboarders die als door magie aangetrokken worden door de sneeuwwitte pistes. In S. Andrea bevindt zich namelijk het dalstation van het skigebied Plose, dat zo’n 40 kilometer aan pistes biedt, waaronder de langste afdaling van Zuid-Tirol. Daarnaast zijn er een funpark, meerdere rodelbanen, diverse skitochten, ritjes met de paardenslee en in ieder geval veel winterplezier voor het hele gezin.
