Internet Consulting - Patrick KammerlanderMet ongeveer 800 kastelen en paleizen heeft Zuid-Tirol een fascinerende schat te bieden die elk jaar weer ontelbare bezoekers weet te boeien. Betoverende ruïnes staan langs de kant van de weg en vertellen verhalen over prinsessen, ridders en rovers.
Liefdevol gerestaureerde kastelen en burchten in Zuid-Tirol doen dienst als restaurant, kasteelhotel of museum en zijn toegankelijk voor het publiek. Sommige worden nog steeds bewoond door de kasteelheren of dienen als zomerresidentie.
De beroemde bergbeklimmer Reinhold Messner woont 's zomers op kasteel Juval in Castelbello-Ciardes, bij de ingang van Val Senales. Een van zijn zes Messner Bergmusea is hier ook gehuisvest. Twee andere musea van Messner bevinden zich in kasteel Bruneck en kasteel Sigmundskron bij Bolzano.
Ten zuiden van Bolzano, rond Appiano, liggen maar liefst 200 kastelen, paleizen en landhuizen. Dit maakt het gebied tot het rijkste aan kastelen in Europa en biedt bezoekers van alle leeftijden talloze populaire excursiebestemmingen en interessante bezienswaardigheden. Vooral de kasteelwandeling Eppan is een aanrader voor gezinnen.

DAN / Fotolia.comHet Kasteleninstituut Zuid-Tirol, opgericht in 1963, is verantwoordelijk voor het behoud van kastelen en paleizen in Zuid-Tirol in openbare en particuliere handen. Naast de professionele documentatie, restauratie en het onderhoud van kasteel Trostburg en kasteel Taufers, die eigendom zijn van het Kasteleninstituut, zet de vereniging zich ook in voor de bewustmaking van haar leden.
De vereniging organiseert tentoonstellingen, seminars en conferenties over kastelen en paleizen. Ze promoot ook publicaties over kastelen en de publicatie van het tijdschrift ARX (Latijn voor kasteel). Nauwe samenwerking met andere Europese kasteelinstituten is van groot belang.
