Kasteel Velthurns in Velturno
Een parel onder de Zuid-Tiroolse monumenten is kasteel Velthurns in Velturno. Met zijn originele wandbetimmeringen en muurschilderingen is het kasteel een van de best bewaarde renaissanceresidenties in het Alpengebied.
Kasteel Velthurns in Velturns werd in de 16e eeuw gebouwd als zomerresidentie voor de prins-bisschop van Brixen. In de loop der eeuwen wisselden de eigenaren regelmatig. In 1978 werd het kasteel eigendom van de provincie Zuid-Tirol en werd het zorgvuldig gerestaureerd.
Kunstig ingerichte kamers
Bezoekers zijn enthousiast over de zeer goed bewaard gebleven muurschilderingen en lambriseringen. De kamer van de prins en de Sint-Catharinakapel, de kamer van de kapelaan en de slaapkamer van de prins-bisschop laten een blijvende indruk achter. Ook de tentoonstellingsruimte met archeologische vondsten uit Velturno en het Eisacktal en de twee zalen met kunstcollecties zijn de moeite waard.
